Day 20 of #sCrypt Halloween is all about #conspiracy in my #novel PLANET ATE. Here are some facts: 1) it was published on March 7, 2016. 2) the cover is a recreation of a dry erase board similar to one I have in my office with notes on the current #WIP. 3) although #aliens are a central focus of the #book it focuses more on the government coverup as to them existing. 4) The Apollo missions, The Book of Ezekiel, Neanderthals, Noah and his Ark, Area 51, the Hollow Earth, the Holy Grail, Easter Island, Egyptian Mythology and more are all incorporated into the plot. 5) before each chapter is an actual quote made by important figures in our history regarding the existence of extra terrestrials. Day 13: ALIEN ENCOUNTERS
Day 13 of #scrypthalloween delves into my short story spinoff ALIEN ENCOUNTERS. Some facts: 1) it was published on sept 15, 2016. 2) the cover is a negative of a photo that conspiracy theorists believe is a leaked alien picture from the FBI’s files. 3) though the novel it’s based off of PLANET ATE focuses more on the conspiracy of extra terrestrials living among us, Encounters takes a more outlandish approach. I wanted it to be less grounded to appease to a different audience. 4) beneath the font on the cover as well as hidden in the book are the all seeing eye and a pyramid. 5) people talk about #area51 but the truth may lie at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, so including it seemed just as important as Groom Lake.
Day 3: BEYOND HUMAN

Day 3 of #scrypthalloween is all about my BEYOND HUMAN TRILOGY. Some facts: 1) even though it’s a trilogy it contains six books. A trio of novels and their spinoff shorts (GENETIC MORSELS, PLANET ATE, DEVOURED UNIVERSE, EVOLVED MUTATIONS, ALIEN ENCOUNTERS, and COSMIC ORBITS). 2) the collection was published originally on February 7, 2017. 3) The cover art by @pintsizedpages @dpipito is inspired by #leonardodavinci ‘s Vetruvian Man. There’s no doubt that we have absolutely no knowledge of what lies out there in the vastness of space. The unknown is great territory for some fantastic science fiction stories and more. How much of what we theorize could be real? When I wrote my novel DEVOURED UNIVERSE and its spinoff COSMIC ORBITS, I aimed to answer just that. Recently a cigar shaped object came into our solar system from interstellar space and then headed back out. Scientists are baffled as to what it might be. Day 27 -Inspiration in Space
I can’t say I’m a hardcore science fiction fan, but there are some franchises that I have the utmost respect for when it comes to space exploration. Those are what inspired me to write my novel DEVOURED UNIVERSE, and its spinoff short COSMIC ORBITS.
When I say I can’t stand Stanley Kubrick’s 2001 A SPACE ODYSSEY, I mean it. It was a horrifically slow movie that didn’t do the book justice at all. Arthur C. Clark’s novel was much more entertaining, and holds a top place in my list of epic science fiction in space. It had 3 sequel books: 2010 ODYSSEY TWO, 2061 ODYSSEY THREE, and 3001 THE FINAL ODYSSEY. Although outdated in terms of mention of year, it isn’t as far fetched as it seems. If you’re a fan of the movie (or not) then I recommend checking out the books because they are much better. The unlimited potential of outer space is depicted in a way that really makes you want to know what is out there.
Next up is the ALIEN franchise. Sure, there are countless books and comics based on the series, but I’m referencing the main films. ALIEN, ALIENS, ALIEN 3, & ALIEN: RESURRECTION fell victim to the sequel not being as good as the preceding entry, but that said, they are still fantastic movies. I would count the two ALIEN vs PREDATOR movies, but since that includes the PREDATOR franchise I’ll refrain (Predator is also a series I love, but that’s going off on another). The prequel movie PROMETHEUS is getting a follow up called ALIEN COVENANT. So far so good with those. What makes these movies great isn’t the characters as much as it is the threat of such a frightening alien.
A series that has fans always in anticipation of the next release is STAR WARS. In all honesty I love the main films, but the spinoff series, cartoons, and books never grabbed my interest. Let’s face it… what makes this franchise great is the heart of the story. Don’t hate me fanboys and girls… I’m just seeing it from a writing perspective. The core here is good vs evil.. There really is no in between in this saga, but that’s what makes it so good. Each chapter holds its own, even though the prequels were widely hated by fans. They really aren’t bad when it comes down to it. We’ve got a handful of them: THE PHANTOM MENACE, ATTACK OF THE CLONES, REVENGE OF THE SITH, A NEW HOPE, THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, RETURN OF THE JEDI, THE FORCE AWAKENS, and episode 8 and 9 coming as well as some crucial backstory starting with ROGUE ONE. Since Disney has taken over it seems to be headed in the right direction, and will hopefully expand to include a simpler, yet less two dimensional narrative.
The other fan eager series is STAR TREK. We’ve got The ORIGNAL SERIES, THE NEXT GENERATION, DEEP SPACE NINE, VOYAGER, ENTERPRISE, and the new series DISCOVERY. Like Wars, Trek’s spinoff novels and comics do nothing for me, but the movies have been hit or miss. THE MOTION PICTURE, THE WRATH OF KAHN, THE SEARCH FOR SPOCK, THE VOYAGE HOME, THE FINAL FRONTIER, THE UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY, GENERATIONS, FIRST CONTACT, INSURRECTION, NEMESIS, STAR TREK, INTO DARKNESS, and BEYOND all have a way of telling a much broader story. Trek has a way of displaying how vast the universe is, and how each different race perceives and handles events.
My goal was to incorporate what was best about all of these: The vastness of the universe, a frightening alien threat, characters that are cared about, and various stances on how things should be handled. DEVOURED UNIVERSE really utilizes these to tell a fresh new type of story that closes out a trilogy and sets way for a future cast to deal with something beyond.

Today sees the release of my short story COSMIC ORBITS. It’s the spinoff of my novel DEVOURED UNIVERSE, and covers some ground that just wouldn’t fit in the main story. These 36 pages were written with a fan request in mind. The Network Entity is back, and it’s set its sights on something new. Is humanity safe?
You gaze at the night sky and see something move. Wondering what is out there keeps you awake at night. Countless forms of life are between you and the farthest star, but there’s also something else. It watches and gathers information, growing more powerful along the way.

Day 25 – Devoured Universe
DEVOURED UNIVERSE is my first novel that goes beyond what we know on Earth. It takes the reader to the farthest reaches of the universe and puts the laws of physics to the test. Day 24 – Conspiring to Inspire
My novel PLANET ATE and its spinoff ALIEN ENCOUNTERS may have an extraterrestrial threat in them, but the main antagonist is the government itself. Countless cover ups and hidden truths are holding the keys to survival, but finding the facts prove to be a difficult task for the heroes of the story.
Conspiracy is what inspired the idea behind me writing these. I wanted to account for some of the many theories out there, and take it to a whole new level. I’m fascinated by how convincing some of these ideas are, and though I’ve personally thought many of them to be ridiculous theories, I have to admit there are some I may have bought into.
So what kind of conspiracy stories do I enjoy? Here’s a few of my favorites:
The TV series 24 will always hold the title. I’ve loved that show since episode 1, and haven’t missed a beat. At times it goes a little overboard with Jack Bauer’s ability to survive, but that’s the best part of it all. I’m excited to see what they do without him as the main character when 24 LEGACY starts next year.
Another series that influenced me is THE X-FILES. When I was a kid I enjoyed the show, and now that it came back I’m eager to see more. From the campiness at times, to some awkward humor, it keeps the story fresh. You may go into one episode laughing at how ridiculous it is, and the next terrified of what is going on. It is the perfect embodiment of what the government is capable of.
Finally is Dan Brown’s Robert Langdon series of books. ANGELS AND DEMONS, THE DAVINCI CODE, THE LOST SYMBOL, & INFERNO are must reads for anyone who is into this sort of thing. Sure the movies were good (and yes I’ll be reviewing Inferno sometime soon), but the books really intrigued. Though there always seems to be a year and a half to two year gap between Brown’s releases, I feel they are worth the wait as he captures a real feel and as many facts as he can in order to tell a convincing story.

Day 23 – Alien Encounters
ALIEN ENCOUNTERS is the short story spinoff of my novel PLANET ATE. Looking at the cover, you may feel as though the cover is familiar. That’s because you probably have at least in some way. I took a public domain image of an alien looking through a window. Its a supposedly leaked image from FBI files of an extraterrestrial here on Earth; at least that is according to conspiracy theorists. By passing the image through a negative filter, and then making it slightly pixelated, I figured it’d make a good cover for a book wrapped in conspiracy.
Beneath the title I added an eye and pyramid to represent the all seeing eye, Illuminati, and secret organizations involved with hiding the truth or trying to expose it.

Day 22 -Planet ATE
The title of my novel PLANET ATE was the hardest to come up with of my books so far. It’s because of that extra thought that it has the most meaning of them all. First off, in the book the main government organization in charge of dealing with the antagonist is the Alien Threat Elimination organization… A.T.E.
It doesn’t stop there however. This is also book # 8 in the series (Ate instead of eight), AND it keeps in line with the food related theme with the past tense of eating. All of the fun entendre aside the title is just the beginning.
For the previous book, artist Dan Pipito did a chalk board layout. Here we see a briefing room like white board. It’s designed to look like a dry erase board with pictures held on as to what information they have.
In writing PLANET ATE I wanted to go beyond just an alien threat and have it focus more on conspiracy. There are countless conspiracies talking about the cover up of UFOs, alien life forms, and so much more. I went with that line of thinking, and exposed (in the story) the truth behind these. The characters go so far as to figure out why we were created, and what is coming to end us. I tried to do it in a way where God and science could go hand in hand. It’s a wild ride that after you read will have you truly wondering what truths are being hidden from us.
Throughout the ages human history has held many unsolved mysteries. Why were we created? Were we a product of evolution? Were we created by God’s hand? Or is the answer more complex? When a creature as ancient as the universe itself targets earth for destruction, the truth must be revealed. Enter the A.T.E., a group of government agents dedicated to uncovering that, which has been hidden for so long. But by looking into past UFO and alien conspiracies, they may not be prepared to deal with truths that will provide proof of our real origins. An extinction event, a Biblical hero, a pilot lost at sea, an artist, and a founding father are only some who held clues to the overall puzzle. Will humanity solve it in time to stop the threat from above?
