ON THE ELEVENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME… 11 hic-hic-hiccups…
10 time travelers, 9 Aliens, 8 conspiracies, 7 super heroes, 6 corrupt files, 5 Demon Spawns! 4 lost souls, 3 werewolves, 2 vampires, and zombies in a story.
I’m secure enough to admit that I really enjoy the classic fairy tales. Disney did a great job of bringing family friendly versions of them to life, and whether dark or happy, the stories are timeless. When my daughter was born I wrote a children’s book for her called A LITTLE GIRL IN THE LAND OF THE HICCUPS. I was heavily inspired by things like Baum’s Oz stories and Carroll’s Wonderland. After finding success with my first children’s book I went back and began rereading some of the ones that inspired me and they are still enjoyable to this day. Depicted here is a rare find called the OZ/Wonderland War. It was a 4 issue mini-series that places both realms in the same reality, and although a little goofy is an enjoyable comic if just to see the characters unite and interact. What is your favorite fairy tale type story?

ON THE TENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME… 10 Time Travelers…
9 Aliens, 8 conspiracies, 7 super heroes, 6 corrupt files, 5 Demon Spawns! 4 lost souls, 3 werewolves, 2 vampires, and zombies in a story.
The idea of time travel has fascinated me since as far back as I can remember. Watching Superman reverse the direction of the Earth in a silly interpretation of going back in time; Marty McFly visiting the past and future in a Delorean; H.G. Wells classic The Time Machine; and Sam leaping from person to person in Quantum leap are just some of the things that hooked me in my youth.
Writing A COURSE FOR HUMANITY and its spinoff THE LOST HOUR was a lot of fun for me, but it took a long time to get right. Time travel logic is difficult to maintain, but is manageable with some thought and research. Pictured here is the U.S.S. Eldrige. It is said that the government managed to send it back in time ten seconds on October 28th 1943. This was dubbed the “Philadelphia Experiment,” although no one actually knows if the program ever even existed. What do you think? There are plenty of photos and historical things that could point to time travel being possible. Do you think it’s a possibility and if so where would you go and when?

ON THE NINTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME… 9 ALIENS
8 conspiracies, 7 super heroes, 6 corrupt files, 5 Demon Spawns! 4 lost souls, 3 werewolves, 2 vampires, and zombies in a story.
There’s no doubt that we have absolutely no knowledge of what lies out there in the vastness of space. The unknown is great territory for some fantastic science fiction stories and more. How much of what we theorize could be real? When I wrote my novel DEVOURED UNIVERSE and its spinoff COSMIC ORBITS, I aimed to answer just that. Recently a cigar shaped object came into our solar system from interstellar space and then headed back out. Scientists are baffled as to what it might be. The picture attached is a scientific artist’s rendition of what it looks like up close. What do you think is out there? Are we alone? Chime in with your thoughts.

ON THE EIGHTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME… 8 conspiracies…
7 superheroes, 6 corrupt files, 5 Demon Spawns! 4 lost souls, 3 werewolves, 2 vampires, and zombies in a story.
Conspiracy theories have been around for ages, but with the internet at our fingertips and technology booming it’s becoming harder to dispute a lot of them. In fact a lot of them even become much less far fetched sounding once you start looking at the different points of view and available facts. For my novel PLANET ATE and its spinoff ALIEN ENCOUNTERS I stuck mostly with conspiracies regarding extra terrestrials. Depicted here are some ancient glyphs that appear to have flying craft in them. It’s just one of the many pieces of “evidence” toward some of these claims. What is your favorite or most fascinating conspiracy theory?

ON THE SEVENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: 7 Super Heroes…
6 corrupt files, 5 demon spawns! 4 lost souls, 3 werewolves, 2 vampires, and zombies in a story.
I’ve always been a fan of comic books. They were a big part of my youth growing up and now I get to see them on the big and small screens. When I wrote GENETIC MORSELS and its spinoff EVOLVED MUTATIONS, I wanted to portray abilities in a more realistic manner. I wanted a comic book like novel that wouldn’t be so… well comic booky. It had to be something any reader can enjoy because it would relate to the real world and how physics actually work. Aside from the science behind it I also looked to real life examples of extraordinary abilities. Take Stephen Wiltshire depicted here. He can fly over a city in a helicopter one time and then draw every single detail he saw accurately. He’s got the world’s most fascinating photographic memory. If you had a super ability what would you want it to be?

On the 5th Day of Christmas…
ON THE FIFTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME… 5 DEMON SPAWNS!
Okay, so Christmas is not about demons at all, but my novel DEVIL’S DESSERT or its spinoff short DEMONIC ENTITIES make for great gifts. This was perhaps the most extensive research I’ve had to do for any of my books because I wanted to respect all faiths. I spent months reading the various main texts and made notes comparing them. There were so many similarities among them that I even went back further into polytheism and saw a common origin point. It is quite intriguing to say the least. Depicted on the left is Anneliese Michel. She died at the age of 23 with the causes believed to have been demonic possession. Look up her story as it is too much to post here. Do you think she was possessed or had some sort of mental disease?

On the 4th Day of Christmas…
ON THE 4TH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME… 4 Lost Souls…
3 werewolves, 2 vampires, and zombies in a story.
My novel SOULS 4 SUPPER and its spinoff short GHOSTLY HAUNTINGS were both commercial successes for me. I finally got the knack of writing a compelling and intriguing story at this point to paint a clear picture of where I wanted to go. Depicted at the right is a pic that has been circling media and internet for years. There’s definitely something strange going on in it. Do you think this could be a spirit or is it just an odd exposure from the camera?

On the 3rd Day of Christmas…
ON THE THIRD DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME, 3 WEREWOLVES…
2 vampires, and zombies in a story.
One of the hardest novels I had to write was BONES AT BREAKFAST. There’s only so much lore to lycans that leave little ground for creative freedom and uniqueness. Thankfully, I managed to pull it off once I got past the little obstacles. The novel and its spinoff IN CASE OF WEREWOLF are perfect gifts for the holidays and beyond. The picture at the left was done by Dan Pipito for the graphic novel version of the spinoff.

On the 2nd Day of Christmas…
ON THE SECOND DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME, 2 VAMPIRES…
…and zombies in a story.
Cain and Lilith are just the beginning of the vampire lineage in BLOOD, THE SECOND HELPING. This novel and its spinoff LEGENDS OF VAMPIRE are the perfect gift for any fan of the lore and historical events. Artwork shown at the right was done by Dan Pipito for the graphic novel version of the spinoff.

On the 1st day of Christmas…
ON THE FIRST DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME ZOMBIES IN A STORY…
And a perfect novel with plenty of zombie madness is FLESH AND LEFTOVERS. Shown is artwork that my brother Dan Pipito did for the graphic novel spinoff ZOMBIE INCIDENTS a few years back.
I’m just nostalgic I guess and love the old Christmas classic tunes. So, in going with that theme I’ve come up with my own 12 Days of Christmas. Of course this can be applied to any holiday of the season, but works with the song of the same name.

12 Days of Not So Christmas Movies
There are dozens of lists about which movies make the Christmas list and which take place during Christmas. The problem with these lists is that they are almost all the same. Sure, there are a few repeats in here, but I wanted to share with you my choices for movies that take place during Christmas time, but are not actually Holiday movies. Here we go in no particular order:
1: Harry Potter – Why did I not mention which Harry Potter movie? The answer is that a few of the films take place during the Holiday season, so therefore the whole franchise gets thrown in the lot. These are perfect for the kids and family.
2: When Harry Met Sally – Who hasn’t seen this movie? It’s one of the best romantic comedies of all time in my opinion. Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan deliver a perfect date night movie that will never get “oh, oh oh…..” old.
3: Die Hard 1 & 2 – Okay, so the second installment was basically the same as the first, but with a different location and terrorists, but it still fits in as a kick ass movie. Any action fan will be saying “Yippie Kayay, Mister Falcon” after watching the TV edited version.
4: Batman Returns – Michael Keaton suits up for the second time as the Dark Knight in this slightly campy, but dark movie. When better to fight the Penguin and kiss Catwoman under the mistletoe, than during the holidays.
5: Gremlins – For the horror fan. Okay, it’s not super horror because it’s got that cute little Gizmo, but it falls into the scary category, and will never get old despite the practical effects. Just don’t eat popcorn after midnight if you’re still up watching it.
6: Rocky 4 – Stallone brings in another emotion grabbing chapter of the Philadelphia boxing franchise. This time you get to watch as faces off against Dolph Lundgren. Make sure to have your presents wrapped in time though or Ivan “Must break you.”
7: Trading Places – Ah, Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd at their finest. Comedy used to be so witty and smart instead of over the top shock humor. This is no exception to the intelligence behind the writing. I wish I could switch places with a millionaire for a day (at least my bank account does).
8: Lethal Weapon – What? You think I’d put Die Hard in here and not Lethal Weapon? Please. This may actually be my favorite non-Christmas Christmas movie of all time. Every time I hear “Jingle Bell Rock” I immediately think of the opening scene to this great action movie.
9: Friday After Next – As a huge fan of the Friday movies (yes I can actually quote most of the first movie), I feel the need to go back and watch this one. All I remember is that it involved Ice Cube hunting down a thief who was dressed as Santa. This makes me still hold out hope for a “Final Friday” sequel.
10: Nightmare Before Christmas – I struggled with putting this one in here as it technically can be a Christmas movie, but in reality it revolves mostly around the characters from Halloweentown, so While Jack Skellington may be trying to take Santa’s place, he will always in my mind be someone who belongs in the month of October.
11: Ironman 3 – There are many things wrong with this movie, but the few things it got right make me enjoy rewatching it on occasion. Plus it takes place during the holidays, so you have to love seeing Tony Stark get the best gift of all… the hole in his chest repaired.
12: Just Friends – This is probably one of the most underrated Ryan Reynolds movies ever, but I don’t get the distaste for it. It’s a funny movie about a kid who was not everyone’s picture perfect person, who grew up to prove them all wrong.
* (Runner up) – Star Wars Holiday Special – This didn’t make the list of 12 because well, it never came out in the theater, and George Lucas still denies its existence to a certain level. But what we have here is a classic WTF moment in film making. Okay it was a TV special, but who cares. It was the first Star Wars show during Christmas time, and man is it terrible. If you’re a fan of Star Wars, then you MUST give it a watch, or at least try to. The original cast reprise their roles in a thin plot with bad everything. I mean beyond bad. So bad it’s good? No! It’s very very bad. But you HAVE to watch it at least once to get an idea for how bad it is. It’s like George Lucas is Santa Clause and he crapped coal into your VCR while you were amped to tape this from TV when it aired.
There you have it! My list for the 12 days. What are some of your favorites? Do you have any non-Christmas holiday movies that you think should be on this list? Comment below.
