Day 18 of #scrypthalloween takes a break from fiction and moves to poetry with my collaborative work SUMMER RAIN: GENERATIONS OF POEMS. Some facts: 1) it was published as a collection on sept 11, 2018. 2) the title was taken from a poem my grandmother wrote called “Summer Rain”. 3) the works within include not just my #poems and #song #lyrics but also some works by my mother, grandmother, wife, daughter, and son. 4) the excerpt is shown is called “Moonburn.” That and other songs I recorded can be downloaded free on SoundCloud. 5) I decided to publish this because people who knew my song lyrics had told me I should publish them as an independent work. When the book was thinner than a standard page count I thought it would be better alongside other writers in my family. Who are some of your favorite poets? #authorsofinatagram #book
Day 17 of #scrypthalloween focuses on my #nonfiction book NO, IT’S NOT. YES, IT IS: ARGUMENTS. Some facts: 1) it was published April 28, 2012. 2) A new edition is in the works since some of the points made are in need of updating due to passage of time. 3) the idea came to me during an election year where I found that people supported their candidates because of their political parties instead of their policies. The goal was for everyone reading the book to take a look at why others think the way they do and come to a mutual understanding. 4) I included many personal experiences from my early life to bridge the chapters in an autobiographical way. 5) the book presents non-biased views on many arguments, some are silly and some are serious, but all are entertaining and informative. What #arguments bother you the most? #book #authorsofinstagram #argue #nonfiction
Click below for the video link. Here’s what the host Britt Carpenter had to say:
@the_brittjames “Whether it’s a friendship or relationship, all bonds are built on trust. Without it, you have nothing.”
Stoked for today’s broadcast of “Be A Voice” on @usalamedia as I welcome my friends @homemadedelish and @rickpipito to the table. Tune in to hear us chat about how these two busy people make a 19 year relationship work, all the while raising two children, juggling self-made careers, being in the public eye, and just plain making it happen the best way they can. Roberta and Rick are a powerhouse couple and shared with me how life isn’t always easy or how you may not always make the right or best decisions, but they show up, the listen, they give it 150% each and try to make life the best it can be each moment along the way. Thanks guys for laughing and sharing with me. My love and respect for the two of you grew greater than ever! .
Make sure you check out both Roberta’s and Rick’s pages respectively and see all the positive things they bring to the table each and every day.

Day 16 of #scrypthalloween looks at some facts and an excerpt from my #short story DEMONIC ENTITIES. Here’s some little known info: 1) it was my first spinoff from a novel that was not presented in graphic novel form. 2) publication date 9/13/16. 3) the novel that it spawns from DEVIL’S DESSERT, focuses more on the evils that humans are guilty of with the demons influencing or feeding off of that. The short story allowed me to focus more on the fantastical elements of demonology, presenting the lore to a wider audience. 4) the cover is comprised of multiple photos of my fire pit merged together. In it you can see what appears to be faces and sprites bringing the fire to life in an eerie manner. 5) I studied a list of over 9,000 demon and angel identities to properly portray something from every faith.
Day 15 of #scrypthalloween goes way back to my first #novel FLESH AND LEFTOVERS. Here are some facts: 1) it became published on August 9, 2010. 2) I initially started it as a response to conversations I had with others about what we’d do in a #zombie outbreak. I had no idea it would spawn a #writing career out of it. 3) I unfortunately did not have an editor for it, so there were a few mistakes during the print, but it was all part of the learning experience. 4) halfway through the #book I realized I was having a lot of fun and decided I wanted it to begin a series with each entry focusing on a different threat. It soon went from zombies to everything else. 5) I had a few emails from readers who claimed I’d given them nightmares and in one instance threw up from a graphic scene. 6) @dpipito created the cover art with teeth tearing into raw meat. It was a subtle way to portray the topic and remains a favorite to this day. What are your favorite zombie stories? #authorsofinstagram #horror

Day 14 of #scrypthalloween shows a preview of my upcoming spinoff THE LOST YEAR. Some facts: 1) it will be published on November 5, 2019. 2) this will be the final entry in the Eternal Hunger Saga. It follows the events of CONSUMED BY WAR but stands on its own. 3) the plot involves a deadly virus and search for a cure. This was originally a concept I had for an earlier book that was shelved until reworked. 4) I wanted to bring some closure to Mayan civilization so tying that into the story was tricky at first. I spent so many hours rewriting and replanting the approach that I could have written half of a full length novel with better planning. 5) the story lead is a strong female character inspired by the amazing women in my immediate and extended family. She’s not perfect but dedicates herself to getting the job done. #book #shortstory #spinoff #virus #mayan #ruins #mayanruins #authorsofinstagram

Day 13 of #scrypthalloween delves into my short story spinoff ALIEN ENCOUNTERS. Some facts: 1) it was published on sept 15, 2016. 2) the cover is a negative of a photo that conspiracy theorists believe is a leaked alien picture from the FBI’s files. 3) though the novel it’s based off of PLANET ATE focuses more on the conspiracy of extra terrestrials living among us, Encounters takes a more outlandish approach. I wanted it to be less grounded to appease to a different audience. 4) beneath the font on the cover as well as hidden in the book are the all seeing eye and a pyramid. 5) people talk about #area51 but the truth may lie at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, so including it seemed just as important as Groom Lake.
Day 12 #scrypthalloween takes a look at an excerpt and some facts from my novel DEVOURED UNIVERSE. 1) it was published on August 28, 2016. 2) the quotes that precede each chapter were chosen to directly relate to different discoveries by scientists about the universe. 3) my goal behind the book was to delve into the unknown in a way that didn’t repeat what has been done in Star Trek or other space stories. It is all based on what we know as well as theories substantiated by various studies. 4) originally this was planned as part 2 to PLANET ATE, but as I wrote Planet I realized I could expand on both creating a great follow up and still maintaining that they are separate entities in the saga. 5) @dpipito did the cover design to fit the theme of the previous two novels in the trilogy. This time it’s a digital layout. One day we’d like to rerelease with an actual holographic cover. #space #exploration #universe What are your favorite space stories?

Day 11 of #scrypthalloween takes a look at my short story THE LOST HOUR. Some facts: 1) It was published in print and digital at lulu and amazon on 9/26/2017. 2) The book takes place near the Bryn Athyn Cathedral in Pennsylvania. It is where I wrote the entire scene while enjoying the spectacular view of the gothic structures. 3) The book was written when I realized I’d had a loophole in one of my books. In one novel I’d mentioned that Samantha Clayton had a son, and in the next novel she mentions nothing about him as if he never existed. Since I was writing about time travel I used that as a starting point to explain the discrepancy. 4) Many years take place between #novels 9 and 10, so I place this in that time period to be a bridge of sorts between the two. 5) there are rules and guidelines to time travel in the universe I’ve created so this takes an in depth look at the trial and error of why those laws are in place. What is your favorite #timetravel story? #book #shortstory #authorsofinstagram

Day 10 of #scrypthalloween goes way back to my spinoff book LEGENDS OF VAMPIRE. Some facts: 1) It was originally published as a graphic novel on February 2, 2012 and later in 2016 converted to text. 2) a day before our final submission was due one of the artists backed out with no warning. We were left scrambling because those pages were an important element. So we ended up using storyboards in the missing pages stead. 3) the story of Sampson and Delilah as well as the reason and how the Great Sphinx of Giza was built get a vampiric twist in the story. 4) for the cover @dpipito took a photo of a friend of ours as if she’s been bitten while sipping wine. Then we passed it through an oil canvas filter to give it a rustic feel. 5) the character of Cory Wright is the only character I’ve created to date where his fate is left unaddressed. I left it up to the reader to ponder and discuss. #book #shortstory #vampire #vampires #wine #dracula #authorsofinstagram #graphicnovel
